20 July - Update on Lewes Vic Minor Injuries Unit
The Minor Injuries Unit at the Lewes Victoria Hospital has revised opening hours this week due to unforeseen staff shortages. This will mean that the unit will be closed on Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd July, with normal opening hours on Friday and revised open hours at the weekend.

A special bus is touring East Sussex during July and August to help encourage young people across the county to get tested for the most commonly diagnosed sexually transmitted infection in the UK. Chlamydia can affect both men and women.
15 July 2010 - Hospital thanks social club for generous donation
Staff at Uckfield Community Hospital have praised members of the towns Cinque Ports club for their hard work in raising over £5,000 to buy new medical equipment. Thanks to their efforts patients on Harlands Ward (see Notes for editors) are now benefitting from two new state of the art beds, as well as a specialist machine to analyse blood samples.

6 July 2010 - Longer opening hours at Uckfield Hospital X ray department
The X ray department at Uckfield Community Hospital is now open 5 days a week. The department, which was previously open 3 days a week, operates from 9am to 4.30pm Monday Friday. This means that patients who need an X-ray can get one locally more often, rather than having to travel to another hospital, such as the Eastbourne DGH

A new health record for the Gypsy and Traveller community is being launched this week in East Sussex (30 June 2010). The Personal Adult Health Record for Gypsies and Travellers has been developed by the local NHS (see Notes for editors) with input from people from the Gypsy and Traveller community.
28 June 2010 - Enjoy the World Cup with a few freebies
People in Eastbourne and Hastings who are out drinking during the World Cup can get hold of free goodies to help encourage them to enjoy themselves responsibly. 1000 bottles of water and lollies will be distributed throughout the rest of the tournament (which runs until 11 July) by local street pastor teams.

Many of us are looking forward to the summer; looking forward to sunny afternoons, holidays, ice creams and trips to the beach, but when its too hot for too long there can be health risks, especially for the elderly, the very young and the seriously ill. 1 June 2010 - Make sure to have your say on local mental health services
The deadline has been extended for people across East Sussex to give their views on proposals to change local mental health services so that more people are able to stay at home, rather than needing to go into hospital for care and treatment. The public consultation on proposed options for inpatient mental health care in the county was due to close on 1 June 2010. However, the consultation will now end at noon on Tuesday 8 June 2010.

11 May 2010 - Plans for new East Sussex radiotherapy service
The local NHS is planning a major new development to bring radiotherapy services to East Sussex. NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald & NHS Hastings and Rother - the two East Sussex primary care trusts - and the Sussex Cancer Network, working in partnership with Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals and East Sussex Hospitals NHS trusts, are planning to site the new radiotherapy service at Eastbourne District General Hospital.
10 May 2010 - Station Health Centre celebrates landmark
The new Eastbourne Station Health Centre has reached a key milestone just six months after it opened. The centre, which can be found on the concourse at Eastbournes main railway station, is open from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week, and offers a walk-in service, which anyone can use, to see a GP or nurse.
10 May 2010 - NHS launches campaign to get men thinking about cancer
A campaign to raise awareness amongst men about cancer kicks off in Eastbourne this week. Its aimed at helping men aged 45 and over to be aware of the main early symptoms of bowel, prostate and lung cancer and to visit their GP as early as possible if they are experiencing any symptoms so that the disease can be diagnosed.

26 March 2010 - East Sussex community health services meet new, tougher standards of care
East Sussex community health services have met new regulations on safety and care. NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald & NHS Hastings and Rother - the two primary care trusts responsible for East Sussex community health services - are in the second wave of registrations under a new, tougher system for regulating standards in the NHS. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) today (26 March) announced plans to give the two primary care trusts (PCTs) a formal licence, without conditions, to provide services.
23 March 2010 - REMINDER of temporary closure of Minor Injuries Unit at Lewes Victoria
The minor injury unit at Lewes Victoria Hospital will be closed from Sunday 22 March to Monday 29 March for essential maintenance work. The unit will reopen at 8am on Tuesday 30 March. During the temporary closure, people will be redirected to the minor injury unit at Uckfield Community Hospital, open 8am-8pm seven days a week. Minor injuries can also be treated 8am-8pm seven days a week at Crowborough War Memorial Hospital and the Eastbourne Station Health Centre.

1 February 2010 - NHS trust appoints acting Chair
An acting Chair for NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald has been named by the Appointments Commission. NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald is the working name of East Sussex Downs and Weald Primary Care Trust. Rita Lewis, who has served on the PCT board as a non-executive director and vice-chair since October 2006, will act as Chair until a new appointment is made.

From Thursday (11th February), the National Pandemic Flu Service is going to be closed down as the number of swine flu cases continues to drop nationally. It will mean that if you are suffering from swine flu symptoms you will need to stay at home and call your local GP who will be able to help, and if necessary offer you antiviral medication.
