Anyone who would like their electric blanket tested for free is invited to attend one of four sessions being hosted by Hastings and Rother PCT across Rother during October.
The four sessions will be held from 10am – 3pm and are:
Monday 27 Oct Robertsbridge Village Hall
Wednesday 29 Oct Pett Village Hall
Thursday 30 Oct Rye Club, Market Road,
Friday 31 Oct Battle Memorial Hall
Blanket testing will be by appointment only, ring Maggie Cornish (Project Support Worker for Older People) on 01424 457129.
Not only will blankets be tested, but there will also be the opportunity for people to meet representatives from other local organisations such as Age Concern, Citizens Advice Bureau and Care for the Carers and get information about benefits and entitlements of particular interest to older people.
Margaret Delahoy, Public Health Development Worker for the PCT, said: “Unfortunately, each year hundreds of house fires are accidentally caused by a faulty electric blanket. Although they are made to strict safety standards, any blanket which is used or stored incorrectly or is more than five years old may be a fire risk.
“In addition to the blanket testing, the day will be a great opportunity for older people to get advice and information from other organisations who can offer them support.”
Anyone who would like further information about the events should contact Margaret Delahoy on 07733 111292.
