Accident and Emergency / 999

The Accident & Emergency Department is for emergencies only and is the right choice when someone is seriously ill and in need of emergency care. It is not for minor injuries or general health problems.

The A&E Department at the Conquest Hospital in Hastings is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It treats serious illnesses and injuries that require specialist emergency care e.g.:

  • Chest pain or suspected heart attack

  • Head injury

  • Severe loss of blood

  • Suspected broken bones

  • Severe breathing difficulties

  • Loss of consciousness

  • Deep wounds.

In an emergency, dial 999 or go to A&E as quickly as possible. If you’re unsure whether to seek medical help or need to know what services are available locally, then call NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
